The Aviator glasses design originates from the military. During the 1930s and 1940s, the United States contracted several companies to create sunglasses that would be durable and able to be worn under headgear. One of these companies, was Bausch & Lomb, and their take on the United States’ request led to the creation of the Ray Ban Aviators. Their signature design became the de facto sunglasses for U.S. military personnel. The aviators reached fashion immortality when General Douglas MacArthur was photographed wearing a pair of Ray Ban Aviators while landing on a beach in the Philippines during World War II.

Since then, aviator sunglasses have been a favorite style by people all around the world. Celebrities, such as Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, and Kendall Jenner, are seen wearing this style in movies and in public. The wide range of people, both famous and ordinary, wearing aviators is testament to just how good the frames really look on anyone.

But why have so many people come to love aviators? One of the leading reasons is that aviators have endless customization potential to them. From different frame and lenses colors to variations in shape, you can make aviators completely unique to your own tastes. In terms of the frame, people can choose the traditional teardrop lens design, opt for a more rectangular look, or change the temple arms to a thicker arm. Aviators aren’t just sunglasses anymore; people are wearing them as regular eyeglasses as well.
