How to Clean your Glasses

Cleaning eyeglasses is an oft-overlooked process that is integral to maintaining the condition of your glasses. Using just your shirt to wipe off the lenses is not enough to correctly maintain them. Check out the steps below to learn how to properly clean your glasses:

  1. Rinse your glasses with water. This step is particularly handy if your glasses are visibly covered in dirt, dust, or grime.
  2. Use a lens cleaner. Using the right liquid cleaner for your lens will not only help you clean smudges off the lens, but also prevent streaks and instills an anti-static formula that helps keep your lenses clean for a longer period of time.
  3. Use a microfiber cloth. We cannot stress how important it is to use the right type of cloth material to wipe your lenses. Certain materials, like tissue, wool, or certain synthetic fabrics, can scratch lenses or leave fibers on them, defeating the purpose of cleaning the lenses in the first place. A microfiber cloth works best due to its soft nature and tight fabric weave, ensuring that you can wipe of the stingiest of smudges while leaving the lenses undamaged. Anytime Glasses provides a microfiber cloth with each pair of glasses we ship.
  4. Hold the glasses by where the temple and lens meet without touching the lens.
  5. Spray the front and back of the lenses with the lens cleaner.
  6. Gently wipe the lenses in a circular motion with the microfiber cloth.

In addition to cleaning your glasses the right way, we also recommend storing your glasses properly to extend its longevity. We recommend storing glasses in a hard case/pouch when not in use or using a chain/cord. Also, we do not recommend wearing glasses on top of your head, as this position places stress on the temples and hinges, eventually distorting the glasses’ shape. Finally, make sure to quickly wipe off any perspiration or liquid on your glasses, as letting it sit on the lenses can cause damage to its coating.
